History
Until 2005, i.e. new Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia, Military Medical Academy has carrying out the program of graduate studies for the Master’s and PhD degree in addition with medical specializations and sub-specializations in the field of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
Aimed at higher education harmonization in the National Defence System and its adjustment with the present higher education in the Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Defence initiated the accreditation of military education study programs along with the formation of the Defence University. After receiving the accreditation status for Undergraduate Integrated Academic Studies of Medicine within the MMA’s School for Advanced Studies and its work permission starting from May 20, 2009, the First Class of Cadets successfully enrolled during the academic year 2009/2010. In 2011, by granting the accreditation of specialist and PhD study programs in the field of medicine and parallel with the foundation of the Defence University of Belgrade, the MMA’s School for Advanced Studies became the MMA’s Medical Faculty operating as the organizational unit of the Defence University.
Activity of the Medical Faculty, Military Medical Academy, University of Defence, Belgrade
Basic activities of the Faculty are higher education and scientific research. Organizing and carrying out of study and education programs represent the activity within the framework of higher education. Study programs include undergraduate integrated academic studies of medicine, six academic specialization studies, three modules of academic doctoral studies and specialist (sub-specialist) medical studies. Also, different types of professional training as courses, seminaries, workshops, professional and scientific counseling are realized at the Faculty. Scientific-research activity covers the elaboration of scientific-research aimed at science and creation development, at improving higher education and quality of studies, as well as at education of young scientists. By performing this activity cadets and students are introduced into scientific-research work, while establishing material conditions for proper work and development of the Faculty.

Unique in the country and region by incorporating medical and military service, the Medical Faculty, Military Medical Academy, University of Defence, Belgrade applies a modern approach and knowledge in the field of medical sciences by organization and realization of education activity in the National Defence System. Within numerous projects, Medical Faculty lecturers and cadets continue their work on MMA’s scientific research thus instructing and affirming young generations of scientists. In addition to excellent results of cadets following their regular MMA’s studies, they actively participate at the congress and other scientific meetings in the field of medicine, military medicine and physical education and sport competitions.
Lecturers from the MMA Faculty cultivate rich publicist activity whilst particular scientific articles are being published in the prestigious world magazines.
